Firestone store in Tennessee gets LEED gold status

from Tire Business

The U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program has given its gold certification to Bridgestone Retail Operations L.L.C.'s Firestone Complete Auto Care store in Smyrna, Tenn. The store opened in June with several earth-friendly features, including the use of low-VOC (volatile organic chemicals) paints, stains, carpets and sealants to improve indoor air quality; ultra low-flow fixtures to reduce water consumption by 30 percent; solar panels that generate 12.5 percent of the building's electricity; a reflective metal roof that lowers heating and cooling costs; sidewalks made with recycled rubber from tires; and landscaping that uses recycled rubber tire mulch and native and drought tolerant plant species to eliminate the need for a sprinkler system. more
