Removing heavy metals from water

from SPE Plastics Research Online

Industries such as (electro)plating, metal finishing, lead smelting, ceramic, and glass manufacturing, as well as storage batteries, can contaminate water with heavy metals such as lead, chromium, mercury, cadmium and copper. Polluted water can cause many health problems including dehydration, stomach ache, nausea, dizziness, damage to the nervous system, lung and eye irritation, skin rashes, vomiting, abdominal pain, lung insufficiency and liver damage. The problem of how to remove metal ions from polluted water has been studied widely, but thus far results are disappointing. more
