Fiber orientation in injection-compression molded thermoplastics

Injection molding is the most common method for plastic part manufacturing. It is used to create many products widely used in daily life, including automotive, telecommunication, and medical applications. Recently, as a modification, injection-compression molding (ICM) has been developed to improve conventional injection molding (CIM). Compared with CIM, ICM possesses many advantages such as decreased molding pressure, reduced residual stress, and minimized molecular orientation. It is well known that adding fiber to plastic parts usually improves mechanical properties such as tensile strength or impact strength.
