New caucus leader vows to fight for Guard
from Navy Times
The new Republican co-chairman of the Senate's National Guard Caucus pledged to "fight as hard for the Guard as they fight for us." The enemy in this fight is Defense Department, said Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, who succeeds Sen. Christopher Bond of Missouri as Republican co-chairman of the 97-senator caucus, because Pentagon leaders are the ones who have been reluctant to provide adequate budgets for the Guard and have resisted efforts to increase the power and visibility of the Guard in the military's command structure.
