Shooting in extreme cold

from North American Whitetail

One afternoon on a cold winter day about 20 years ago, Dick Metcalf missed a 300-yard broadside shot at a whitetail doe on his own home ground. Metcalf was serious about getting a deer. It was the last hour of that year's deer season. He'd gone scoreless so far and needed meat, and he was shooting a rifle that he knew was accurate. It was a solid setup from a steady tree stand rest. He fired three times. The doe apparently had no idea there were bullets anywhere close. So he quit wasting ammo and went home empty-handed. more
