Army looks to improve Guard life
Starting next fall, the time a reservist spends at home between mobilizations will increase to four years, the Army Chief of Staff said during a meeting with members of the Army National Guard in Arlington, Va. Gen. George Casey said the longer time at home is necessary for the welfare of troops. "We had to get there," he said. "Studies show that it takes a minimum of 24 to 36 months to recover from a combat deployment. The reality of it all is that we cannot go to war without the Guard and Reserve."
