Zebrafish ideal model for professor's melanoma research

The black pigment cells of zebrafish hold striking similarities to those in human tissue. These cells intrigued Cynthia Cooper when she began working with the silvery fish in 2003 and now she's determined to find out what causes these cells to become cancerous. "Zebrafish can tell us a lot of things about humans because there's so many genes that they use that humans use as well," says Cooper, assistant professor of molecular genetics at Washington State University in Vancouver. more
