How providers can improve care for Reserve Component members

Many Reserve Component members lack access to DoD health programs, but face barriers with civilian healthcare providers because of the distinct nature of many military psychological or mental ailments. As such, Master Sgt. Stephanie Weaver of the National counterdrug liaison, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration, suggests several ways in which civilian healthcare providers can adopt "military cultural competence" to create stronger communication and thus more effective healthcare between themselves and their Reserve Component patients.
