Reservists retrieve space debris from Mongolia
from Air Force Reserve Command
An Air Force Reserve crew from the 729th Airlift Squadron flew to Mongolia to retrieve debris fallen from a rocket launch last year. Though the mission may sound routine, tracking and recovering fallen space debris happens only a few times per decade, as most fragments from launches or satellites that are lost will usually land in the ocean. The last recoverable debris to come out of orbit landed in remote Antarctica.
