Senate passes continuing resolution to fund government until Nov. 18

A partisan fight over federal disaster assistance ended abruptly Sept. 26 when Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced the Federal Emergency Management Agency has enough cash to make it to the end of the fiscal year, which is Sept. 30. The Senate then voted 79-12 to approve a stopgap spending bill to keep the government running until Nov. 18. The passed measure includes $2.65 billion to allow FEMA to respond to natural disasters in fiscal 2012, which begins Oct. 1. more
