Odierno: Cuts could shrink Guard, Reserve

The Army's top officer told the House Armed Services Committee on Nov. 2 that the threatened across-the-board cuts would mean personnel reductions in the National Guard and Reserve, in addition to the 50,000 cuts already planned for the active Army. Army Chief of Staff Gen. Ray Odierno was responding to a question from committee vice chairman Rep. Mac Thornberry, R-Texas, who asked, "If $465 billion is OK, then why not $466 billion or another $50 billion?"
