Exploring a novel clay in ternary polymer blend nanocomposites

from SPE Plastics Research Online

Poly(L-lactic acid), or PLLA, is a transparent and crystalline polymer with a relatively high melting point but brittle properties. It is biodegradable, derived from renewable natural resources, and exhibits high mechanical performance comparable to those of some petroleum-based polymers. It is strong and has low elongation at break. However, it also has some disadvantages, principally its poor thermal stability, mechanical resistance, and limited gas barrier properties, which limit its use in industry. more
