Industry veteran Joseph Ruffolo dies

Joseph D. Ruffolo, 70, of Fort Wayne, Ind., passed away on Dec. 27, 2011. He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Madison and of Harvard University's Advanced Management Program. He held various positions prior to accepting a senior management position at NorthAmerican, Inc., in 1974. In 1987, he was appointed chief executive officer of North American Van Lines, and served until his retirement in 1993. Because of his well-known expertise in the transportation business, that year he was called upon to assist in the privatization of government trucking companies in Russia, focusing on the breakup of government-operated units and the creation of new privately held companies. Ruffolo co-founded RuffoloBenson, LLC, a merchant banking company, and was also a co-founder and investor in Tower Financial Corporation and Tower Bank. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Linda L. Ruffolo, two children, and two grandchildren. more
