Associations and indie bookstores sell experiences, not commodities

from Avectra

Back in the '80s, national book stores with huge inventories and low prices, like Borders, drove independent bookstores out of business. Then Amazon came along with an even bigger inventory and cheaper prices and crushed Borders. Amazon, using customer data and user-generated book reviews, provided a different kind of personalized online experience. Associations and indie bookstores can beat the competition when it comes to providing a better overall experience if they also up their game by leveraging technology to increase their member/customer knowledge. They need to deliver what the member/customer needs before they ask for it. more
