WORKSHOP 10: Developing District Plans and Building Programs Around Accessible Transportation (9 a.m. - noon)

Leaders: Mike Martin, National Association for Pupil Transportation, Albany, N.Y.; Alex Robinson, New York City Department of Education, Long Island City; Judy L. Shanley, Easter Seals Transportation Group, Washington, D.C.

This half-day workshop will identify the strategies important to build a coordinated system of transportation education in urban, rural and demographically diverse settings. There is a limited focus on an accessible transportation continuum across pupil transportation and public transportation systems, resulting in students being underprepared to use community transportation. This lack of preparedness is evident when students want to participate in community experiences while they are in school, and becomes especially apparent, when students transition from secondary to postsecondary settings. Pupil and public transportation presenters will model and use interactive tools to assist attendees to develop plans around a transportation continuum.

Workshop registration: $89.00 CEC member rate and $139.00 CEC nonmember rate before March 11.
