Salina Concrete celebrates 100th anniversary

from Salina Journal

Salina Concrete of Salina, Kan., celebrated their 100th anniversary of continuous operation last week at an event with their customers and the Salina Chamber of Commerce. Concrete silos, the product that gave the business its start, and thousands of homes and other structures have sprung up from Salina to the Colorado border, also into Oklahoma and Nebraska, General Manager Peter J. Browning said. Salina Concrete — today with 2,000 products, including ready-mix concrete, clay brick and precast blocks, stone, cleaners, sealers, adhesives and hollow metal doors — was organized as Salina Silo by H. H. Allison in 1913. Early on, the company produced silo staves (a 70-pound concrete block) and built concrete silos for customers throughout Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota and Colorado. "It's humbling to realize the number of businesses that Salina Concrete has been involved with," said Browning. "It's a pride for all of us that we're building a better Salina, a better Kansas. We've been a part of that." more
