Reducing sudden cardiac arrest in schools, parks
from By Rosemary Sparacio
Portable automated external defibrillators, or AEDs, have been available as early as 1997. In the last decade, technology has made their home and commercial use not only more prevalent and easier to use, but also more affordable. Like much of advancing technology, the price of the units has decreased dramatically — from well over $3,000, to under $1,000. An AED is the only effective treatment for restoring a regular heart rhythm during sudden cardiac arrest and is easy to operate for someone with no medical background.
