A look at Alberta's newest and largest wind farm
from Alberta Oil
For a province where fossil fuels are king, it's interesting that Canada's first commercial wind farm was built in Alberta TransAlta's 21 MW Cowley Ridge in 1993. Since that was built, 752 wind turbines with a generating capacity of 1,117 MW have been installed in Alberta, according to the Canadian Wind Energy Association (CanWEA). The province ranks third in Canada behind Ontario and Quebec for installed wind energy capacity.
