ASFM publishes training and outreach materials about the National Flood Insurance Program reform bill

from IAEM

Chad Berginnis, executive director of the Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFM), recently testified before the U.S. House Committee on Financial Services, asking that proposed changes to the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) not be postponed, and offering options to the affordability aspect of flood insurance. Concerns about flood insurance no longer being affordable for some people after the Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Act of 2012 was enacted, along with several other concerns, prompted many to ask that the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) be put on hold for four years. ASFM supports many of the changes made in the 2012 NFIP Reform Bill, also known as Biggert-Waters 2012, or BW-12 for short. A centerpiece of BW-12, which was signed into law July 6, 2012, was to make NFIP more financially sound. The ASFM has published online training and outreach materials on BW-1. more
