Budget Agreement Reached, Shutdowns Averted Through 2015

from American Supply Association

With the calendar winding down and a large number of unfinished items on the agenda, House and Senate negotiators have agreed on a budget resolution; passing both houses remains uncertain. The House is set to adjourn tomorrow, but the Senate will be in session through the following week. The agreement would fund federal agencies through 2015, averting additional shutdown threats. It would allocate $1.012 trillion in spending for fiscal year 2014, a compromise between the $967 billion advocated by Republicans and the $1.058 trillion sought by Democrats. The plan includes a $63 billion spending increase for 2014 and 2015, but offsets these gains with $85 billion in deficit reductions over the next decade; a move that could make it palatable to conservatives.
