Protecting bighorn sheep

from The Argus

A recent Idaho court decision will keep the Payette National Forest closed to domestic sheep grazing. The closure is meant to stop the spread of ovid pneumonia, which is deadly to wild sheep but mostly harmless to domestic sheep. The Oregon Hunters Association praised the decision; President Fred Craig said bighorn sheep can cross the Snake River into Oregon, where there have been a large number of bighorn deaths due to the disease. The decision upholds the closure, which was implemented in 2010, despite the Idaho Wool Growers Association's attempts to get the decision overturned. more
