Virginia Range bighorn herd 'doing OK'

A herd of bighorn sheep reintroduced into the Virginia Range nearly three years ago appears to be doing well despite ongoing drought conditions and competition from wild horses, biologists report. A recent ground survey in the area where the sheep were released east of Reno revealed 57 of the animals scampering over rugged terrain, with the total herd now likely numbering 80 to 90, said Carl Lackey, a biologist with the Nevada Department of Wildlife. more
