Improving the scratch-resistance of acrylic glass

from SPE Plastics Research

Polymethylacrylate (PMMA) is transparent and is frequently used as an alternative to glass. However, it has poor tribological properties (such as indentation or scratch resistance) that limit its applications. Over the past couple of decades, the ability of functionalized (that is, with functional groups such as -COOH added to its surface by a chemical reaction) multiwalled carbon nanotubes (F-MWCNTs) to act as a filler and form nanocomposites with various polymers, improving their properties, has been extensively explored. more
