Many Lyme tests unnecessary

A new Lyme disease testing report by investigators from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that 62 percent of the 3.4 million serologic tests done by large commercial laboratories nationwide in 2008 adhered to the recommended two-tiered antibody testing approach. However, just 12 percent of the 2.4 million patients tested were infected with Borrelia burgdorferi, the researchers report in an article published online May 30 in Clinical Infectious Diseases. more
