School board increases student walking distance to save money

from Palo Verde Valley Times

Palo Verde Unified School District in California voted 3-2 on May 27 to increase the students' walking distance by one-half mile beginning the 2014-2015 school year. Kindergarteners will have to walk 1 1/4 miles, one way to school; first-third graders will have to walk 1 1/2 miles; fourth-sixth graders will have to walk 1 3/4 miles; and middle school and high school students will have to walk 2 1/2 miles. All distances are one-way and "as the crow flies" meaning actual walking distances are longer. more
