School district hopes to grow new 'Meals on the Bus' program

from Waco Tribune-Herald

Local families said the Waco Independent School District's new Meals on the Bus program has made it simpler to access free summer meals for their children. Janvan Robinson walks his two children, Ja'mesiya Howard, 6, and Jertavion Betters, 8, to SJ Guthrie Park for lunch each day, greeting a Waco ISD bus carrying free hot meals. The family normally takes the trays of food back to their home a block away on North 33rd Street to eat. Robinson said he would normally take the family to Crestview Elementary School, which also serves free breakfasts and lunches in the summer but is nine blocks away. He has a car, but said being able to walk to a nearby food site is more appealing. more
