SAMHSA report: Nearly half of substance abuse treatment facilities offer tobacco cessation


In 2012, nearly half of the nation's substance use treatment facilities offered counseling or medications to help clients quit tobacco use, according to a report by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Among the programs offering these tobacco use cessation services, 39 percent offered counseling, 22 percent offered nicotine replacement medication and 16 percent offered non-nicotine medication. The level of substance treatment programs offering smoking cessation services rose from 42 percent in 2011 to 46 percent in 2012. more
