VIA Rail had to pay competitors $1.7 million to transport stranded passengers last year

from National Post

VIA Rail doled out nearly $2 million to its competitors last year when its trains couldn't get passengers to their destinations, the most the Crown corporation has paid for alternate transportation in the past five years. In 2013, VIA Rail spent $1.7 million so that vehicles such as buses and taxis could transport stranded train passengers to wherever their ticket was supposed to take them. more
