EPA gets 1.6 million comments about its CO2 regulations, showing vast differences in opinion

Employees at the U.S. EPA have a lot of reading to do. By the Dec. 1 deadline, the agency had received more than 1.6 million comments on its proposed standards to cut carbon pollution from existing power plants, per its authority under Section 111(d) of the Clean Air Act. The "Clean Power Plan" introduced in June will set individual target emissions rates for each state toward an overall target to cut power sector emissions 30 percent below 2005 levels by 2030, with interim targets averaging 25 percent between 2020 and 2029. more
