UAV rulemaking said to be moved up

from NSPS

In light of the recent UAV crash on the White House lawn, action on the significant rulemaking on Unmanned Aircraft Systems (drones) has stepped up to THIS WEEK rather than a handful of years from now. The "Report on DOT Significant Rulemakings" is available from the following link under the heading of "Access to the Report": http://www.dot.gov/regulations/report-on-significant-rulemakings.

Within the document is a clickable link for Item 3 in the Table of Contents. Item 3 (Screen 12) is about Operation and Certification of Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS). This is where it states that the Rulemaking Publication Date will be Friday, January 30, 2015, and will have a two-month comment period, ending March 30, 2015. Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems will be a booming market for surveying, engineering, GIS and related fields. The media is going to spin this toward an image of little flying bombs hovering over government facilities because of the stigma attached to the word drone. more
