The provincial government is looking at doing away with the Utilities Consumer Advocate advisory board, a move some critics fear could leave Albertans without a voice in utility rate hearings. The nine-person external advisory board — which was created in 2003 in response to the deregulation of Alberta's electricity and natural gas markets — provides input to the province's Utilities Consumer Advocate, which is responsible for representing the interests of consumers in regulatory hearings before the Alberta Utilities Commission. more
