School bus drivers say stop arm violators escaping tougher penalties mandated by lawmakers

Three years ago, Iowa lawmakers cracked down on drivers who ignored the flashing lights and extended stop arms on school buses. And that crackdown included a 30-day loss of license for even convicted first time offenders. But some school bus drivers are now questioning if the law is being properly enforced when those violations go to court. The law was called "Kadyn's Law" after Kadyn Halverson, 7, of Kensett. She was struck and killed by a driver while crossing a road to board her school bus in 2011. The driver had ignored the stop arm and flashing lights on the school bus. more
