US CBP installing document reader kiosks to speed up processing of bus passengers at Rainbow and Peace Bridge

from OMCA

As a measure to speed up processing times for bus passengers entering the U.S. at the Rainbow Bridge (Niagara Falls) and Peace Bridge (Buffalo), the US CBP is installing document reader kiosks. They are already in place at the Rainbow Bridge and they will be installed at the Peace Bridge later this summer. These kiosks are user-friendly and are designed to speed up the inspection process.

There are no immediate plans to install kiosks at the Queenston Lewiston Bridge due to space limitations at that facility. Bus operators should notice an improvement in processing times when the kiosks are used. The passengers disembark the bus and enter the processing facility where they will see kiosks (at left). They place their travel document (passport, enhanced drivers licence, Nexus card, etc.) on the reader. The document is then queried by CBP and the results are available to the CBP Officer before the passenger presents himself/herself for processing. This efficiency has reduced wait times at other border crossings where kiosks have been deployed. more
