Beefing up of ambulance service on hold

Plans to beef up Niagara's ambulance service with 20 new staff including 16 paramedics have been shelved for now, despite ever-increasing numbers of 911 medical emergency calls that could drive up response times to medical emergencies. Niagara medical officer of health Dr. Valerie Jaeger told the Region's public health committee that the 911 call volume to Niagara Emergency Medical Services has soared from 37,349 in 2006 to 50,496 last year, an increase of about 35 per cent. more
