Missouri takes districts for a bumpy ride when it comes to bus funds

Missouri has slowed its roll in recent years when it comes to funding school transportation costs. Less money is available for all districts — and school buses can take a beating, especially in rural areas where gravel roads and potholes are common. But problems aren't limited to rural districts. In 2004, St. Louis Public Schools received $12.2 million from the state. This year the district received $4.3 million, said Patrick Wallace, district spokesman. The district contracts its bus service out to First Student. more
