Chicago Public Schools slashes number of bus stops for special schools, will place within 1.5 miles of students' homes

from Chicago Sun-Times

Chicago Public Schools plans to cut its number of bus stops for selective enrollment and magnet students by more than half in an effort to save money, officials said. Bus transportation currently serves about 10,000 students at CPS' magnet and academic elite schools — some 6,600 of them will be affected after the district cuts the number of stops from 450 to about 180 this fall, according to CPS spokeswoman Emily Bittner. more
