Enmax applies for 10-year permit to export electricity nightly to U.S.

from Calgary Herald

City-owned Enmax has applied to the National Energy Board to export 100,000 megawatt hours of electricity annually to the United States, but Alberta's energy minister says the electrical grid is meant to serve Albertans. The utility said it is seeking the 10-year licence to export excess electricity during the night when demand for power is low in the province. "Our top priority is to supply Albertans with electricity when they need it most," said Enmax spokeswoman Doris Kaufmann Woodcock in an e-mail. more
