Study: Smoke-free workplaces and tax hikes reduce youth smoking

Smoke-free zones and greater taxes on cigarettes help reduce the prevalence of smoking in teens and young adults, according to a recently published study by the University of California, Merced and University of San Francisco. Based on national data of 11 years from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, researchers found that in an environment that is 100 percent smoke-free, the probability of taking up smoking is decreased by one-third. more
