Message from the NFAIS Executive Director:

Marcie Granahan,
NFAIS Executive Director
In the spirit of International Open Access Week (Oct. 19 – 25, 2015), there are several good articles in this week’s issue of NFAIS Advances. Plus, we’re excited to hold our workshop tomorrow on The Impact of Open Access Models: Finding Stable, Sustainable and Scalable Solutions. Clearly, digital and open-access journals have dramatically changed the dissemination of scholarship.

Now, scholarly output is changing, reflecting increased emphasis on collaborative work, global networks and interoperability, and the synthesis of a vast amount of data beyond the published text.

This is the topic of the NFAIS Annual Conference, Data Sparks Discovery of Tomorrow’s Global Knowledge, Feb. 21 – 23, 2016 at Hyatt Bellevue in Philadelphia. Indeed, what does the future hold? Check out Manuscript at the click of a button; 'Data Science Machine' crunches numbers faster and more effectively than most; and Crowdsourced research: Many hands make tight work to predict where things might be headed. And also check out the NFAIS Advance Community Forum, where I make a few predictions of my own.

As always, we hope you enjoy reading this week’s issue of NFAIS Advances! Please feel free to share with your colleagues and friends.
