Magnetically stimulating brain area might ease poststroke arm impairment

from Today in PT

Magnetically stimulating a specific part of the brain can affect arm movements, according to a new study, giving hope that in the future, this therapy could help people who have lost use of an arm after suffering severe strokes. Findings from the 30-patient study were presented Oct. 20 in Chicago at Neuroscience 2015, the annual meeting of the Society for Neuroscience. The research is the first to focus on the transient changes that transcranial magnetic stimulation can cause in patients with severely disabling poststroke arm impairment, according to a news release. more
