Elder Workforce Alliance call to action

from AGPT

The AGPT and APTA are members of the Elder Workforce Alliance (EWA). The EWA is a group of 31 national organizations who join together to address the immediate and future workforce crisis in care for an aging America. Their mission is to insure that high-quality, culturally-sensitive, person-directed, family-centered care is a front and center in all policy discussions in order to improve the quality of life for older adults and their families (learn more here). In one of their recent newsletters, they put out a call to action

Unless we expand training and educational opportunities, the workforce — including unpaid family caregivers — will be even more constrained in its ability to care for older adults as the baby boom generation ages. Programs to build the nation's eldercare workforce and support family caregivers are some of our country's most important programs, ensuring the supply of a well-trained workforce necessary to deliver the care. Please urge your member of Congress to support funding for Title VII and Title VIII Geriatrics Programs in the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), the Administration for Community Living (ACL) Family Caregiver Support Programs and the National Institute on Aging. With your help, Congress will make these critical programs a priority in the FY 2016 Appropriations process. Click here to take action. more
