Report blasts school leaders, staff for bus problems

A newly released report concludes that the busing meltdown experienced this fall by the Palm Beach County School District was caused by systematic issues including "undue influence" from a school board member, inadequate staffing and a culture of distrust. The three-month independent investigation by Fort Lauderdale attorney Eugene Pettis said the failures led to a new routing system being rolled out prematurely despite concerns raised repeatedly by staff, resulting in a "failed project that should have been foreseeable and avoidable." It was, the report said, the manifestation of underlying institutional problems that culminated in a "perfect storm." more
