Watchman Device Cheaper Over Lifetime than Warfarin, NOACs

Left atrial appendage closure with the Watchman device was more cost-effective over the long term for reducing stroke risk in patients with atrial fibrillation than either warfarin or nonwarfarin oral anti-coagulants in a newly published cost modeling analysis. Compared to warfarin, the model showed LAAC with Watchman to be cost-effective at seven years, while nonwarfarin oral anti-coagulants required more than twice as long to achieve cost-effectiveness, researcher Vivek Reddy, MD, of Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York, and colleagues reported in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. more
