Not-for-profit hospitals that have not paid property taxes since 1913 could find themselves on the hook for taxes to municipalities if a measure introduced becomes law. Senate President Steve Sweeney (D-West Deptford) and Sens. Robert Singer (D-Lakewood) and Joe Vitale (D-Woodbridge) introduced a bill that would call for property taxes on for-profit facilities within the nonprofit acute care hospitals, and dedicate the collected funds to public safety departments. more
