Forestry project aims to help fight invasive species

Anacortes, Washington, will be getting some help pulling ivy, trimming trees and planting native vegetation at the start of the new year when a Puget SoundCorps crew dedicates almost four weeks to working in its parks and forest lands. SoundCorps employs young adults 18-25 and veterans to help them build job skills while earning money for education and cleaning up Puget Sound. The crew of five people plus a lead are coming as part of the Urban Forestry Restoration Project administered by the state Department of Natural Resources' Urban and Community Forestry Program. more
