Recently surveyed by VACEP's Research Committee

VACEP's Research Committee asked emergency physicians about their use of the PMP and Dilaudid with expectations use of opioids by the emergency department will be debated in the General Assembly which started this Wednesday.
  • 74 of the 76 respondents practice emergency medicine.
  • 31 percent of respondents (24) say that their departments have a set of opioid guidelines in place.
  • 55 percent of respondents use the PMP several times a week. 81 percent use it at least once a week
  • All respondents say their departments use Dilaudid.
  • 15 percent say their departments are looking into ways to diminish or eliminate Dilaudid use, while 63 percent say they are not looking into it.
  • 2 respondents said their departments already had programs in place for the administration of Dilaudid.
