The president has sent up to Congress his final budget proposal, which includes for the first time a $10 tax on a barrel of crude oil. Reports are that the dramatic decline in the price at the pump is what is fueling this proposal. Republicans in the House and Senate have proclaimed the tax dead on arrival. In fact, this year it was announced that neither the House nor Senate Budget Committees will be inviting the Office of Management and Budget to testify before their committees, based on their belief in the White House's unseriousness over the $19 trillion dollar debt. With the stalled energy bill losing momentum, the Senate is expected to take up a House-passed measure that would impose new sanctions on North Korea.
