Papua New Guinea and Tanzania are both REDD+ countries, meaning they’re participating in the UN program that aims to channel international finance to conservation activities that reduce carbon emissions associated with deforestation and forest degradation. About $45.3 million has been invested in PNG for REDD+ activities between 2009 and 2014, according to a report released by ForestTrends this week. Some $93.8 million in total funds have been committed or disbursed to Tanzania — but unlike financing for PNG, funds to Tanzania have all but dried up. more
