Study: Superbugs Follow 1 in 4 Seniors From the Hospital To Post-Acute Care Settings

from Fierce Healthcare

Superbugs are following seniors from the hospital to post-acute care facilities — where they're picking up even more bugs, according to research reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association Internal Medicine. The study of 357 seniors found that 24 percent had at least one multidrug-resistant organism on their hands when they checked in to the post-acute care center, according to an announcement from the University of Michigan. Regular checks during stays of up to six months showed the number of seniors with superbugs rose to 34 percent. more
