What a week!

from CASE

As you read this article, we will have just returned from St. Louis and the CEC Convention. While there we had a great Executive Committee meeting and our annual joint CASE member and board meeting. We had over 80 people from 25 states attending on Wednesday, April 13. It was a bitter sweet time as Dr. Mary Lynn Boscardin (MA) was winding up her two year tenure as CASE President. Her term isn't over until June 30th and she is still working hard for CASE but this meeting was her last time with the big group! Mary Lynn has done a great job and we all appreciate her leadership! During the meeting we had some great activities, including a professional learning activity with Kahoot It! The members heard from CEC Executive Director, Alex Graham and President Antonis Kayisuyannis on the area of membership strategies and Dr. Deb Ziegler gave a policy update. CASE Policy and Legislative chair, Phyllis Wolfram (MO) led the group in providing input of the upcoming IDEA reauthorization recommendations. Julie Bost (NC) led the group through an annual membership campaign and Dr. Pam Howard (AL) introduced the brand new brochure on the Endorsement Process. Dr. Barbara Pazey (TX) lead an interactive activity on research and Emilie Maule (IA) discussed the annual report process. And of course, Laurie VanderPloeg (MI) annouonced the election results: Phyllis Wolfram (MO) will be the new president elect, July 1 and Carrie Turner (MO) will be serving a 2nd term as CASE treasurer! To see pictures of all the CASE happenings at the CEC convention, go to the CASE Facebook page.

Speaking of brand new... Michael Remus (AZ), was so excited to unveil the newest addition to the CASE Leadership Series, "Book 4: Effective and Efficient Management of Resources" by Dr. David Bateman and Jenifer Cline. The book was a huge hit at the CASE Booth last week and of course, you can purchases it on line through the CASE website.

What would we do without our great sponsors? It is so important to thank our wonderful sponsors for all of their support for our CEC CASE events! Scholastic hosted the Executive Committee dinner on Tuesday night; Winsor Learning provided us with a great, full breakfast on Wednesday morning. Our afternoon break was provided by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and the Master Teacher provided the lovely awards that were handed out! Houghton Mifflin Harcourt also sponsored Julie Weatherly's great session on Thursday. Star Autism, vizZle, and C8Sciences all were the proud sponsors of the amazing CASE night we held! Go to the CASE Facebook page for pictures of the fun we all had during CASE Night! Thank you so much for all your support!

A Time for Recognition! One of the highlights of the day was the recognition time both for units and for individuals! In the area of Membership: FLCASE and MECASE tied for the highest percentage of increase — 24 percent and FLCASE was recognized as having the largest number of new members! NC CASE was a close 2nd with a 22 percent increase in membership. In addition, the following units all received certificates for increasing their membership this past year: Alabama, California, Connecticut, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas and South Carolina. The unit awards were as follows: Membership — Nebraska (NASES); Legislative — tie : Vermont (VSEA) and Indiana (ICASE), with honorable mention to Wisconsin (WCASS); Professional Development — Missouri (MO CASE); Communication — Illinois (IAASE); and Awards — Georgia (GCASE). This year the all-around best unit receiving the Exemplary Unit award was Michigan (MAASE). Congratulations to all of these unit winners!

The Outstanding Administrator Award went to John Street (NE). The Harrie M. Selznick Award with to Dr. Timothy J. Lewis (MO). Watch for a detailed description of John and Timothy’s professional life in the next issue of the In CASE Newsletter! Be sure to go to CASE Facebook page for additional pictures! Again, CONGRATULATIONS to these outstanding CASE members!

Last week's poll asked if you knew CASE endorses products. In first place with 55 percent was, "yes, I know, but have never used the information on the CASE website." Coming in 2nd with 27 percent was, "yes, I do know, and I use the information in making selections." Third place with 18 percent was, "yes, I do know, and I love the discounts/extra services, etc. I get from the products." Fortunately no one answered that they had never heard of the CASE Endorsements! Spend a few minutes and read the new brochure on CASE Endorsed products and check out this list of products!

As always, I appreciate you taking the time to read this article and hopefully the information that follows! We had a great time at CEC last week — networking, catching up with colleagues, and learning the latest information in our field! Why don't you mark your calendar now to join us in Boston for CEC 2017 next April!
